What is keratin debris?

Keratin debris is the white, yellow or brownish granular build-up that you see on or under your toenail or fingernail. Keratin debris is the food supply and habitat of nail fungus. It is where the fungus lives in your nail. Keratin debris can cause your nail to thicken and separate from the nail bed. NONYX Nail Gel clears out keratin debris so nails are clear and healthy-looking with regular use.

What is ethanoic acid?

The ethanoic acid in NONYX Nail Gel is the exfoliant of keratin debris. Ethanoic acid breaks down only the keratin debris. It has no effect on your normal nail plate. The ethanoic acid in NONYX Nail Gel is fermented from plants (naturally-derived) and the acidic acid level in NONYX is almost twice as much as what is found in household vinegar.

How long will it take to see results?

How fast you see results depends on your nails rate of growth (age), the location of the keratin debris (surface or inside the nail) and your use of NONYX (twice a day as recommended or fewer applications).

However, look for the smaller toenails to clear up faster than the large toenail, based on the clinical study.  In the clinical study smaller nails may be clear in as little as three months. For larger nails expect to see good results within 5 to 9 months as your nail grows out.  Fingernails grow at twice the rate of toenails, so expect to see results much sooner on these nails.

You may be able to start scraping out any softened keratin debris in 3 to 6 weeks. For fastest results apply NONYX Gel twice a day to the flat surface and under the tip of the nail, morning and night, especially after bathing.

What is the shelf life of NONYX Fungal Nail Gel? And how do I determine the age of the bottle of NONYX Nail Gel I purchased?

NONYX has a shelf life of 3 years. Recently the carton and bottle have the "Best if used by" date printed on them. If you have an older bottle there is a manufacturing date code on the underside of the bottle. The first 2 numbers of this code are the last two digits of the year it was made. For example, 19 = 2019. The next three digits of the code represent the sequential day of that year. Your bottle of NonyX is still good if the first two digits printed on the underside of the bottle are the number 17 or a higher number. If the number is 16 or lower the bottle has expired and you should buy a new one.

Question 6

How long do you have to wait before you put on socks after you apply NONYX Nail Gel? Won't the socks absorb the gel and basically significantly reduce the effectiveness of each application?

You do not have to wait for NONYX Nail Gel to dry before putting on your socks. For best results, gather your sock so that the toenails go directly to the toe area. Should some gel should get on your sock it will continue to transfer the gel back to your nails. Keep in mind that only a thin coating of NONYX is needed per application.

What can I do to speed up results, especially if progress seems to be slowing down?

There are several ways to see results more quickly:
 
 • Cover toenail with a Band-Aid® after applying the gel to keep it moist on your nail longer. Be sure to keep the gel off your skin
 • If thick gently file the flat surface of your nail with the fine side on an emery board – do this filing weekly.
 • Soak your toenails in a warm foot bath weekly before scraping out any softened keratin debris – you can also use an old toothbrush to get keratin debris out from under the nail tip
 • If you shower, throw a wash cloth over the drain and let the water rise enough to cover your toenails so they are softened somewhat prior to putting on gel after your shower.
 • Once a week wipe the inside of your shoes in the toe area with NONYX Nail Gel.
 • Let the nail tip grow out to provide a larger ledge under which you can squeeze some gel daily.

Can I use NONYX with nail polish?

If you want to wear nail polish, here is the procedure: Apply NONYX Nail Gel with a small make-up brush to bare nails and allow to dry thoroughly (10 minutes). Then cover with your polish basecoat, color and topcoat. Note: Use regular polish only such as OPI® as gel-type polishes will not adhere to NONYX. Every 7 to 10 days remove polish, wash nails and repeat. If your nails are raised due to keratin debris buildup, apply NONYX Nail Gel only under the nail tip twice daily.

Can NONYX be used during pregnancy or while breast-feeding?

While NONYX contains naturally-derived ingredients we did not test it on pregnant or breast-feeding women and therefore do not recommend it be used by them during this time.

Can I use NONYX on my child's nails?

Accepted Answer

You can use NONYX on your child if they are old enough (5 or older) to understand not to put their toenails or fingernails near their eyes or get the gel in their eyes, as NONYX is an eye irritant. You should apply the gel yourself and keep it out of reach of your child when not in use.

Why does my NONYX Nail Gel seem more liquid than before?

There are three reasons that NONYX Nail Gel would become more watery: The bottle is old and the gel has expired, the bottle was left in the sun for a long period of time or the bottle is too warm. If the gel is watery put it in the refrigerator for an hour and then keep it in a cooler location.

The applicator cap has a small hole for the gel to come out.  Is there an easier way to spread the gel around the nail?

Accepted Answer

Dispensing the gel from the tip of the cap is not ideal, but it assures that the gel in the bottle and on your nail remains sterile.  However, you can also put some gel on a Q-tip(R) or swab and use it to spread the gel over your nail, then throw the swab away or use the other side of the Q-Tip on your next application.

I am having trouble getting the gel out of the top of the container- is there anything to do to help get the gel out?

1. Make sure the paper seal on the neck of the bottle or inside the cap is removed.
2. Take off the cap and rinse it under a faucet until you are sure there is no gel in the nozzle of the cap.  Put the cap back on the bottle.  Turn the bottle upside down and shake it using your wrist to remove any air bubbles until you see the gel travel down the nozzle.  Then squeeze the bottle gently while it’s upside down and the gel should come out.  Store the bottle upright with the small, black-tip cap on the nozzle cap.
